The Shakopee Public School District is looking for a TOSA – Literacy Coach (1.0 FTE) to join the team.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Learning, Teaching and Equity (LTE), the Literacy Coach provides direct literacy coaching and professional development support for K-2 teachers and other specialists resulting in the continual growth and improvement in literary practices across the district. This position requires specific training around the Shakopee Comprehensive Literacy Framework throughout the school year, including the summer.

Essential duties and responsibilities: 
 
Instructional Coach:

  • Coach for implementation of Shakopee’s Comprehensive Literacy Framework, focused in grades K-2
    • Teach literacy lessons for teachers to observe, discuss and reflect on
    • Observe lessons and coach teachers through questioning and reflection
    • Co-plan and teach with Shakopee University Participants
  • Coach and plan with K-2 grade level teams to use assessment results to modify instruction and design needs-based interventions
  • Coach with K-2 grade level teams or individual K-2 teachers on modifications, accommodations, or enrichment to support the literacy needs of unique learners
  • Attend regular meetings with district instructional coaches to align work and practices across buildings
  • Attend training and workshops throughout the year, including summer and mentor coaching cycles

Professional Development:

  • Plan and provide training in the areas of literacy at the building and district level
  • Plan and provide ongoing support for new hires in the area of literacy 
  • Assist with the coordination of curriculum resources related to literacy programming
  • Plan and provide training in administration of district adopted assessments (ex. FastBridge, DRA)

Professional Expertise:

  • Possess high quality instructional practices in all aspects of teaching and learning, including best practices in instruction, digital integration and multicultural teaching practices
  • Willingness to work during summer months to lead or participate in teacher training or curriculum writing according to the contractual compensation rate  
  • Excellent human relations skills including the ability to work effectively with others
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging educational technologies in order to stay on the forefront of using technology for increasing student learning
  • Demonstrate an understanding of “best practices” and the latest literature in the field around literacy instruction, digital integration and equity
  • Collaborate, learn and plan with teachers
  • Contribute to a positive and professional working environment
  • Strong work ethic, organizational skills and time management
  • Flexibility and a willingness to undertake a variety of tasks, sometimes at the direction of more than one person
  • Interactions require presentation and communication skills
  • Coach, mentor and motivate individual and/or groups of teachers towards continuous improvement

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Must possess a current teaching license
  • K-12 Reading license preferred

Experience:

  • Three or more years elementary teaching experience preferred
  • Experience in coaching, professional development, or teacher leadership
  • Experience with innovative technology integration practices
  • Experience in a 1:1 environment preferred

 Special Knowledge or Skills:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of technology-related best practices to support literacy instruction
  • Possess high quality instructional practices in all aspects of teaching and learning
  • Ability to contribute to a positive and professional working environment
  • Strong work ethic, organizational and communication skills, and time management
  • Ability to lead and assist in planning and delivering high quality professional development

Working Conditions:
Office environment.
