SPPS is looking for a Medical Careers Teacher for the 24-25 School Year

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
Valid Career and Technical Education teaching license in the area of Medical Careers issued by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Masters Degree relevant to field of program.

Responsibilities

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
-Support the State of Minnesota Graduation Standards and content industry standards to promote curriculum in school.

-Develop and maintain a multicultural, gender and disability fair medical careers curriculum that supports the curriculum of the program.

-Work effectively with students, staff, community members, and parents from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

-Seek community input to develop a curriculum that reflects the diversity of students as well as meeting the needs of the current job market.

-Develop and implement innovative methods for serving the needs of all students.

-Assist with program marketing and student recruitment including developing and using effective strategies to increase enrollment of non-traditional students.

-Assist college instructor(s) with the training of students in the nursing assistant program.

-Assist with the advisory committee in collaboration with Saint Paul College that will implement the plan, steps, and timeline to accomplish the determined program goals.

-Develop and maintain community member partnerships that will provide program support and hands-on learning experiences for program instructors and a diverse population of students.

-Work closely with post-secondary and district administrators, program managers, district and building staff, and external partners to support the Saint Paul Career Pathways Academy.

-Develop and implement follow-up strategies to maintain records of students’ future education and job selection to track success of program goal of increasing workforce in the medical career field.

-Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Demonstrated knowledge and experience of current research and practice in the subject of medical careers exploration; CPR and First Aid.

-Demonstrated knowledge in integrating core academics with Career and Technical Education.

-Demonstrated experience in the areas of course development, curriculum writing, assessments, cooperative learning, in the field of Medical Careers.

-Understanding of the National Health Care Skills Standards as required by the teaching license.

-Teaching and/or industry experience in the medical or health sciences field.

-Understanding of the impact of data, data collection, and data interpretation to support classroom practice.

-Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with colleagues, parents, students from diverse backgrounds.

-Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

-Experience in team building and collaborative approaches to goal setting and instructional reform.

-An understanding of reflective practice.

-Working knowledge of professional learning communities and job-embedded professional development.

-Experience interpreting and implementing program requirements.

-Knowledge of articulations with post-secondary institutions.

Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule

This is a 10 month position working 40 hours per week.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Teacher negotiated labor agreement. The labor agreement and salary schedule can be found at Labor Agreements – Saint Paul Public Schools (spps.org)
