Starting Rate of Pay – $12.75 per hour depending upon education.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:    

Special Education Paraprofessional

REPORTS TO:

Overall supervision of their building principal with direct supervision provided by special education teachers (case managers)

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:  (Minimum Level of Education and Experience Required)

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (Minimum Competencies for Job Performance)

 

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Have a high school diploma

  • Experience working with PK-12 age students (preferred)

 

  • Be capable of physically assisting students with specials needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)

  • Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others

  • Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others

  • Effectively communicate with individual/groups of students

  • Have willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position

  • Support the Mission Statement of the district

  • Behave and speak in a professional manner at all times

  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance

  • Attend staff and team meetings

  • Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety

  • All other duties as assigned.

JOB GOAL:

Implement special education or related services for a class and/or to provide direct assistance to students and provide general student supervision.

INCLUSIVE LEARNING SUPPORT

  1. Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and classroom teachers.

  2. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress.

  3. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.

  4. Work with other professionals, such as speech therapist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists.

  5. Assist faculty with maintaining student records.

  6. Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.

GENERAL STUDENT SUPERVISION

  1. Monitoring and facilitation in movement of all students in common areas of the school building and grounds (playground, hallways, lunchroom, bus area, classrooms, gym)

  2. Communication of witnessed student behavior in common areas to faculty if there is a need for reporting student actions.

  3. Collaborating with other paraprofessionals to ensure the efficient flow of students between academic areas supervised by faculty.

  1. Completion of State and Federal forms required for servicing students with disabilities

  2. Other duties as assigned

    

Evaluation: Each educational support staff member’s job performance shall be evaluated by his/her supervisor. The evaluation process includes day-to-day observations and such supervision/communication as is applicable to the job classification. Supervisors shall provide employees an opportunity to discuss performance. As appropriate, supervisors should discuss with employees job performance issues that require timely attention.
