A Substitute Paraprofessional, also known as a Substitute Teacher Assistant, plays a crucial role in educational settings. Here are the key duties and qualifications for this position:

  1. Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Understanding the daily schedule: Substitute paraprofessionals familiarize themselves with the daily routine and tasks that need completion.
    • Individualized instruction: Providing extra assistance and instruction to individual students or small groups to reinforce lessons.
    • Behavior intervention: When students exhibit problem behaviors, substitute paraprofessionals intervene and model good behavior for the entire class.
    • Supervision during activities: They supervise students during outside recess, lunch in the cafeteria, and other activities.
    • Clerical tasks: Assisting with administrative duties, such as taking attendance and calculating grades.
    • Supporting therapists: In school settings, they aid therapists who work with students.
    • Data collection: Collecting data and compiling reports.
  2. Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED, along with two years of post-secondary education or the ability to meet state requirements.
