Licensed Substitute Teachers
If you are currently an active substitute with BHM Schools and your Frontline/Absence Management/AESOP profile is also active, it is not necessary to re-apply annually.
Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District # 877 is accepting applications for Minnesota licensed substitute teachers for the current school year.

Licensed Substitute Teachers Pay Rates for the 2024-2025 School Year:
- $180/day or $90/day for a half day (days 1-20)
- $190/day or $95/day for a half day (days 21-40)
- $200/day or $100/day for a half day (days 41-60)
- $210/day or $105/day for a half day (days 61+)
Licensure:
Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District # 877 requires that all substitutes have a current teaching license from the Minnesota Department of Education ***this includes Short Call Substitute Teachers, see below for more information.*** Once you complete our online application, if you are selected to join our substitute pool, Human Resources will contact you via email to complete a background check and attend a small group orientation (generally held monthly).
Background Checks:
NOTE: Please understand we do NOT accept background checks done at another district or from another employer. Our database is online and all background checks completed for our district must be submitted and maintained in our online database.
***Short Call Substitutes:
If you hold a 4-year degree, but not in the field of education, you may apply to become a Short Call Substitute Teacher through PELSB. Please visit their Online Licensing System to obtain your Short Call Substitute Teaching license, prior to completing this application to become substitute teacher for BHM Schools. The entire licensing process is done directly with PELSB Educator Licensing and may take 6-8 weeks to complete. Applicants are responsible for all fees associated with obtaining their license and ISD 877 cannot guarantee how many days you may or may not work once you obtain your license. MDE cannot complete your application until they receive all pieces of your application, including payment. After you obtain your Short-Call Substitute License, please return to complete this application. All questions related to obtaining a short call substitute teaching license should be directed to PELSB by phone at 651-539-4200 or by email to pelsb@state.mn.us.

- If you have a Minnesota teaching license and it is expired, you’ll need to visit the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing & Standards Board (PELSB) to start the renewal process (before completing this application).
