Student Navigator
Mankato Area Public Schools

Mankato Area Public Schools has a position available for a Student Navigator beginning as soon as possible. This 12-month position requires approximately 15 hours/week of availability, which includes flexibility for time during the school day, after-school hours, and on weekends as needed to accommodate students’ schedules. 

Summary of Duties:

  • Mentorship: Build strong and supportive relationships with high school students who express an interest in becoming teachers with the understanding that each student’s experiences and challenges will be different. Offer mentorship, guidance, and insights into the field of education by listening to specific concerns and help navigate student’s academic and career paths accordingly. 
  • Resource Coordination: Connect students with relevant resources such as educational workshops, seminars, teaching materials, and opportunities for classroom observation. 
  • Career Exploration: Help students explore different teaching paths, specializations, and grade levels by connecting them with experienced educators who have faced similar challenges and can provide guidance and support as the student progresses in their studies. Provide information about various teaching programs and pathways to becoming an educator. 

Education:

  • Background in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field 
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong passion for education and a genuine interest in guiding aspiring teachers. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Empathetic, patient, and enthusiastic personality with the ability to inspire and motivate students. 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. 
  • Familiarity with educational resources, teaching methodologies, and the education system. 
  • Previous experience in mentoring, coaching, or working with youth is a plus. 

Compensation: 

  • $23.00/hour.
  • Eligible for Earned Sick and Safe Time (6-3-2 Benefits)
