Job Title: Student Crossing Guard

Location: Albany School Campus

Reports To: School Principal

Job Type: Part-Time, Hourly

Compensation: $15 per hour

Job Overview:

We are seeking a responsible and dependable Student Crossing Guard to assist in ensuring the safety of students and pedestrians during the school’s morning and afternoon arrival and dismissal times. The ideal candidate will be 16 years or older, able to work outside in various weather conditions, and demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a safe environment for students, parents, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor Pedestrian Traffic: Safely guide students across intersections and crosswalks near the school campus during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
  • Enforce Safety Rules: Ensure that students follow safety procedures, such as waiting for the signal before crossing and using designated crosswalks.
  • Alert Drivers: Use hand signals or crossing signs to stop or slow down traffic as needed, ensuring students can cross safely.
  • Maintain Visibility: Stay visible and alert while stationed at assigned crossing points, making sure to wear any required safety gear (e.g., reflective vest, gloves).
  • Assist with School Arrival/Dismissal: Provide general assistance in helping students safely navigate the school grounds during peak traffic times.
  • Report Issues: Notify school authorities or local police of any hazards, unsafe driving behavior, or traffic incidents observed during shifts.
  • Work in All Weather Conditions: Be prepared to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, or extreme heat.

Requirements:

  • Age: Must be 16 years or older.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate with students, staff, and drivers.
  • Reliability: Must be punctual and dependable, arriving on time for shifts.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong sense of responsibility for student safety and a clear understanding of pedestrian safety rules.
  • Ability to Follow Instructions: Ability to follow school safety procedures and traffic control guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with children or in a safety-related role is a plus, but not required.
  • A positive and approachable attitude when interacting with students, staff, and parents.

Work Schedule:

  • Hours: Morning shift (typically 7:30 AM – 8:00 AM) and/or afternoon shift (typically 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM), Monday through Friday, on school days, during the school year.
  • Duration: Position is available during the school year and may be renewed annually.
