Position Overview:
The Strength Training Coordinator will oversee the operation and management of the high school weight room, ensuring that students receive effective, safe, and engaging strength training instruction. The coordinator will be responsible for designing and implementing age-appropriate strength programs for student-athletes, providing individual coaching, and maintaining a safe training environment. This position will work for 4 days a week during three 10-week training sessions throughout the academic year.
Key Responsibilities:

Program Design & Implementation
- Develop and implement structured strength training programs for student-athletes, with an emphasis on safety, functional strength, and performance enhancement.
- Create individualized training plans based on the athletes’ skill levels, needs, and sport-specific demands.
- Periodize training cycles to ensure progress and avoid overtraining.

Coaching & Instruction
- Provide on the spot coaching, teaching proper lifting techniques, form, and injury prevention strategies.
- Supervise students during workouts to ensure safe execution of exercises.
- Offer individual feedback and corrections to help students improve strength, speed, and power.
- Lead warm-ups, cool-downs, and mobility drills as part of each session.

Facility Management & Safety
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe weight room environment.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Enforce proper gym etiquette and safety guidelines, including appropriate lifting techniques and spotter protocols.

Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff to coordinate strength training with seasonal sport schedules.
- Communicate with athletes, parents, and other staff regarding training progress and any injury prevention measures.
- Track and monitor student-athletes’ performance, providing progress reports as needed.

Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate records of training attendance, progress, and individual performance metrics.
- Assist in the scheduling of weight room sessions, ensuring efficient use of the facility.
- Promote the strength training program to students and encourage participation.
Qualifications:

Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Physical Eduaction or related field preferred.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), or similar certification (e.g., NASM, ACE) required or in progress.
- First Aid/CPR certification required.

Experience
- Previous experience in coaching, strength training, or athletic performance is preferred.
- Experience working with high school athletes is highly desirable.

- Strong knowledge of strength training principles, exercise physiology, and injury prevention.
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and connect with high school athletes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Other Expectations:
- Follow and meet all expectations set forth by St. Francis Area Schools regarding the position as a coach.
- Flexibility may be required to accommodate sports seasons or special events.
- Communicate with Activities Director regarding questions and concerns.
- Adhere to the start and end dates of the season and rules pertaining to out-of season coaching as determined by the MSHSL.
- Provide for the health, safety, and well being of team members at practices. This includes oversight of the locker room if possible.
- Complete a post-season report with necessary information as stated by Activities Director.
- Actively recruit at the high school level.
- Complete district Vector Training modules for coaches.
- Participate in MSHSL safety training for coaches.
- Represent St. Francis High School in a positive manner throughout the school and community.
- Other duties as assigned.
