MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A valid license in the area of Speech Pathology issued by the Minnesota Department of Education.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and learning styles, as well as, teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities. 
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to use, the due process system, including timelines and due process paperwork.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents and students from diverse backgrounds.  
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  • Support the State of Minnesota Graduation Standards and content area packages to promote curriculum in the school. 
  • Screen, identify, assess, and diagnose disorders of communication including articulation, voice, language, and fluency.  Use state eligibility criteria to make decisions regarding service eligibility. 
  • Provide treatment and intervention, including consultation and follow-up to children, from birth to twenty-one years of age, diagnosed with communication disorders.  Determine specific, reasonable, and appropriate goals and objectives and measure treatment outcomes through a program of periodic monitoring and data collection. 
  • Counsel students and their families/caregivers and other service providers regarding specific communication disorders and their management; make referrals when appropriate. 
  • Select, prescribe and provide services supporting effective use of assistive technology devices and other forms of augmentative and alternative communication. 
  • Serve as case manager and advocate for the students served. 
  • Collaborate with other professionals.  Use communication skills that take into consideration the communication needs and cultural values of others.
  • Document services for accountability and related billing requirements.
  • Contribute to the District’s inclusive workplace efforts by fostering a safe, welcoming and respectful environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE
This is a 10 month position working 40 hours per week.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the SPFE – Teachers negotiated labor agreement. The salary schedule can be found on the Labor Agreements page.
