Description
Job Summary: Working under the direction of the head coach, carries out the objectives of the activity program as outlined by the head coach and activities director. This position is a 0.5 FTE stipend position.
Qualifications:
- Previous knowledge of MSHSL speech and/or theater preferred, but not required.
- A willingness to learn and ability to guide students.
Responsible to:
- The Activities Director, who provides overall objectives in conjunction with the respective Principal.
Supervises:
- The students in their program in grades 9-12, in conjunction with the Athletic Director, and respective Principal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coach individual students approximately two hours per week, based on coach availability of schedule.
2. Attend four separate Monday team meetings after school.
3. Attend 6-7 speech meets throughout the season; weeknights and an occasional Saturday.
4. Has thorough knowledge of the Activities Policies of the District and is responsible for their implementation of the sports program.
5. Has knowledge of existing state and league regulations.
Staff Responsibilities:
1. Follows the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff.
2. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
3. Performs such other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
Student Responsibilities:
1. Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport or activity to each student who is considered a participant.
2. Gives constant attention to a student’s grades and conduct.
3. By his/her presence at all events, practices and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
4. Follows programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
Finance, Equipment and Facilities:
1. Permits athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times.
2. Examines facility space before and after practice and events, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.
3. Secure all doors and lights before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
4. Instills in each student a respect for equipment and school property, its care and use.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Attend MSHSL rules interpretation meetings.
2. Attend annual coaches meetings and training.
Salary: Varies based on experience in accordance with teacher’s master agreement.
