WORK DAY:  7.25 hours per day; approximately 7:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.; Temporary through May 31, 2024

The Special Education ESP provides support to students at the school site with needs who qualify for special education services in various school environments. The position is also responsible for implementing aspects of the student’s IEP (Individual Education Plan) under the direction of certified staff.  This can include instructional support, behavior management, health support, collecting data, and communicating academic and behavioral progress at the school site.   Percentage of time spent on essential duties and responsibilities will be dependent on the individual student’s needs and abilities.
 

  • Follow student Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Observe and document students’ academic and social behaviors.
  • Consistent and accurate data collection of student progress on goals and objectives
  • Provide feedback on student progress
  • Supervise students in various settings and locations in and around the school building, before, during and after school hours.
  • Provide Support/Supervision at meal times, at recess and on field trips
  • Specifically, this position may be required to support students with emotional/behavioral needs.
  • Support students with de-escalation techniques and use restrictive procedures as needed (Training provided as needed).
  • Model appropriate language and social behavior
  • Able to build strong relationships with children from all backgrounds and neuro-types.
  • Maintain Confidentiality
  • Effective Communication with all staff
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Regular, on-time attendance is required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement; 60 college semester credits and/or a two-year degree from an accredited college or university.  Please include official transcript(s) with application.
  • In lieu of college credits or degree, one can complete the ParaPro Assessment test. The passing score in Minnesota is 460.

  • The test is available to applicants who are presented an official job offer from the Rochester Public School District. 
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with elementary age students.
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work as a cooperative team member.
  • Positive rapport with children including the ability to correct inappropriate student behavior with fairness and consistency.
  • Regular, on-time attendance is required.
