Venture Academy is a 6th-12th grade charter school in Minneapolis that focuses on providing a future-focused education.  Through designing classrooms and curriculums to meet the needs of all students and inspires them to identify their own hopes and dreams, we achieve our vision of graduating students who are ready to be happy and successful as adults.
 

Venture Academy is seeking a full-time special education teacher.  We are hiring for the upcoming school year.

Qualifications desired (but not limited to):

  • Minnesota teaching license (traditional or alternative pathways both welcome) 
  • Demonstrated success working with students (preferably low-income and students of color) 
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with peers
  • Willingness to receive coaching and instructional feedback
  • Experience with either Teach Like a Champion, Responsive Classroom or Love and Logic
  • Knowledge and experience with formative and summative assessment 
 
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive, full-inclusion environment
  • Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of
  • skills, language, cognition, and memory
  • Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such including, multi-sensory learning,
  • and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students' varying needs and interests
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by each student’s Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system, including Crisis Intervention
 
Training/Implementation
  • Accommodate the general education teachers with curriculum support for students with disabilities based
  • upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students
  • Test students to assess reading, writing, and math skills. Gather data about student behavior, grades, grade point average, tardies and absences. Be able to analyze, write individual education plans, re-evaluations, functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans in order to stay in compliance with federal and state laws
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social/emotional development
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations 
  • Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings, including the daily management of paraprofessionals 
  • Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions, including monitoring of student progress 
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities 
  • Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications 
  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and licensed or able to obtain a license from the MN Department of Education in Special Education 
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards, learning theory and practice, curriculum, interventions and programming 
  • Demonstrate the ability to organize and synthesize verbal and written data 
  • Respond quickly to a variety of stakeholder requests and manage timelines 
  • Work cooperatively and effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment with various staff and related service providers
