About the position: 

 

First and foremost, we are seeking value aligned and critically conscious educators committed to a social justice education. 

 

The Special Education teacher will nurture a classroom environment which: centers students; fosters learning and personal growth; develops critical thinking and problem solving skills; encourages student agency, voice and inquiry; honors the brilliance, identities, and gifts of each student; and builds strong relationships rooted in care and belief in the immense potential of young people.  As a member of the Southside staff community, they will model the values and mission of our school, work collaboratively with colleagues, be open to their own learning/unlearning and growth, and build relationships with families and community.

 

We are are looking for folx who:

  • Licensed as an Academic Behavioral Strategist and will provide specialized instruction for students with mild to moderate disabilities (LD, OHD, ASD, or EBD).  

  • Have a demonstrated experience building relationships and community with elementary  age students.

  • Are skilled in parent communication.

  • Hold experience collaborating with general education teachers to support student accommodations and modifications.

  • Have strong experience writing IEP’s and conducting evaluations. 

  • Have demonstrated experiences monitoring and documenting progress. 

  • Understand how disability justice is critical for students to experience social justice in school

  • Have a desire and ability to work collaboratively with other staff members.

  • Have a positive attitude and strong communication skills.

  • Are excellent community builders with skills that include strategies for supporting students through a trauma informed and restorative approach and building healthy interpersonal relationships

  • Have the ability to adapt their  instruction to meet diverse student needs.

  • Have skills and experience to develop culturally relevant and justice oriented curriculum

What are the school hours and school year ?

The 2024-2025 school year will have a student contact day of 9am-4pm.  Our contract day will be 8:15am-4:15pm. See our 2024-2025 calendar here

 

Compensation: 

SFCS uses a compensation scale for licensed staff based on years of experience.  We honor all years of teaching experience in other school settings.

 

We are offering a base salary between $40,000-$60,500.  Additionally, stipend pay is offered for degrees beyond teacher education/licensure degrees, training certification in alignment with our mission (ie: restorative practices/justice, cultural relevance, trauma informed, etc.) and teacher leader responsibilities (ie: assessment, QComp, etc.).
