Job Title:  Special Education Teacher (2024-2025  school year)

Job Location:  Sejong Academy Charter School.  2410 Stillwater Road E.  Maplewood, MN  55119

Sejong Academy is looking for a special education teacher to support PreK-12 students. Candidates should have strong leadership, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills; and the ability to identify learning challenges, analyze, process and make judgments with the sensitivity that is necessary to lead and coordinate programs for students.  Teachers must understand and have the skills to apply these strategies and concepts in the creation of a developmentally appropriate student-learning environment. 

 

Essential Functions: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.  Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at the school on the specified days and hours.  Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide direct special education services for students who have disabilities 

  • Provide consultation and support to classroom teachers regarding students on IEPs. 

  • Provide work direction and support to the assigned Educational Assistants. 

  • Perform educational assessments of students as required.   

  • Develop, write and implement IEPs for assigned caseload.   

  • Ensure that due process requirements are being followed. 

  • Promote cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy and self-control among students, as well as conflict resolution strategies.  Establish developmentally-appropriate behavioral expectations for students.

  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with families in making educational decisions.  Promote family involvement to support student learning. 

  • Attend Staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required

Qualifications:

  • Valid MN teaching license in Special Education

  • Knowledge of Korean language and Korean culture preferred but not required

  • Skills required to perform multiple, technical tasks with sufficient organization

  • Flexibility to independently complete tasks and work with others in a wide variety of circumstances

  • Ability to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including: communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, multitasking, meeting deadlines and schedules, working with frequent interruptions, setting priorities, working as part of a team, and making independent decisions

  • Experience with Special Education documentation and SpEd forms preferred
