Harbor City International School (harborcityschool.org) is a public charter school serving grades 9-12 in Duluth, MN. We focus on academic success and community engagement in a small, inclusive setting. The purpose of this position is to support academic and social development as well as transition planning for students with Individualized Education Programs.

Has experience with and knowledge of special education due process and the continuum of services.

Is able to utilize Evidence Based Practices and make data based decisions.
Responsibilities include:
-
Plan, develop, monitor, and adapt students’ educational and behavioral program to meet the specific needs according to the Least Restrictive Environment in students’ IEPs

Provide and deliver curriculum to meet IEP goals
-
Consistently and effectively manage the collaboration and communication between the appropriate service providers and IEP team members

Gather, analyze, synthesize, and employ data to inform education plans and progress
-
Develop and maintain positive relationships with students in a manner consistent with school culture and values
-
Create a safe and inclusive environment for all students to engage in classroom and school activities
-
Work with general education and paraprofessional staff to provide student accommodations and differentiate learning experiences for students

Consistently complete and appropriately manage IEP processes, deadlines and records for special education students keeping HCIS in compliance with federal and state regulations.

Effectively maintain students’ IEPs with essential components

Effectively initiate and follow through with all necessary components of a student’s evaluation process.

Use Google Suites, including Google Classroom, and Powerschool management system

Communicate with students, families, and colleagues professionally and effectively verbally and in writing.
Education Requirements
-
BA/BS or higher (MA preferred) in Special Education
-
Valid MN teaching license in one or more of the following Disability Areas: SLD, EBD, ASD or ABS; Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) preferred.
