The Special Education Teacher will be developed, supported, and guided by the Principal, Special Education Coordinator, and Executive Director. The Special Education Teacher Teacher’s major responsibilities are:
Be responsive and responsible to a group of loving l students. Direct and support paraprofessionals working directly in the classrooms with the students. Run small group developmentally appropriate classes throughout the day. Attend IEP meetings and communicate effectively with the Special Education Administrative Assistant about scheduling and the Special Education Due Process Facilitator about IEP writing and Evaluation needs. Implement curriculum and activities to meet the academic standards, participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions. Be accountable for student’s achievement of academic standards; communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues. Effectively implement Responsive Classroom techniques. Candidates for this position should have strong leadership, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills; and the ability to identify learning challenges, analyze, process, and make judgments with the sensitivity that is necessary to lead and coordinate programs for students
