Description
North Shore Community School (NSCS) is a rural charter school nestled in the woods near the north shore of Lake Superior approximately half way between Duluth and Two Harbors. Established in 2002, the school serves approximately 350 students in grades kindergarten through six.
NSCS'S mission is to excel in connecting our students’ academics and learning with their natural and social environments in a nurturing community setting. This mission is driven by four core values:

Special Education Teacher Responsibilities:
- Serve as an IEP case manager
- Facilitate team meetings to review student progress and develop IEP’s as related to student needs.
- Plan and implement appropriate educational programs for individuals.
- Incorporate innovative teaching methods.
- Use relevant technology to support instruction.
- Create a classroom and school environment using Responsive Classroom strategies.
- Work as a team with other teachers and school members to regularly share expertise and curriculum.
- Facilitate resolution of problems that arise with students and parents.
- Implement educational plans as describe on individual IEP (IIIP/IFSP) and train building staff as needed.
- Maintain appropriate records and reports. Collect data on progress on goals and objectives for each student.
- Direct the work of paraprofessionals.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, educators and administrators regarding student programs and progress.
- Collaborate with students, families, related service providers, outside agencies and other team members to promote growth of each student.
- Work cooperatively with general education teachers and staff and provide building training as needed.
- Create and maintain a professional working relationship with families and staff.
- Participate in curriculum development.
- Conduct assessments, comprehensive report results and follow Minnesota state criteria in area(s) of special education eligibility.
- Determine and complete purchase orders for supplies, materials and equipment based on student needs.
- Participate in building and district level staff development activities.
- Prepares an annual professional growth/development plan
- Support and participate in the school’s governance process; including school committees.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities in certification areas as directed by the Director of Special Services and/or the NSCS Executive Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current Special Education License
- The skill and ability to clearly and concisely communicate both written and orally
- Basic knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office software and other electronic tools.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using computerized special education forms
- Must be capable of correspondence using email or other web based applications
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others
- Evidence of educational experiences
