JOB DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide a clear, consistent structure for the classroom that ensures that the academic, social, and emotional needs of each student are met within the guidelines of the Individual Educational Program (IEP) course work.
RESPONSIBILITY:
- Provide an individualized academic program to each student in the classroom
- Co-create the development of the IEP, i.e. goal setting, implementation, and assessment
- Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Work with the paraprofessionals to maintain a structured therapeutic learning environment
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, support staff and classroom teachers
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hold current Minnesota teaching license
- Experience working with both “push in” and “pull out” SPED programming.
- Ability to facilitate the group process, supervise people and work effectively with a teacher leadership team
- A positive, adaptable, flexible, and high-energy person that can guide our students’ transition to a less restrictive environment
- Ability to use de-escalation strategies and other approved strategies responding to physically active and aggressive children, adolescents, and young adults
- Effective emotional/behavioral skills
- Effective organizational and classroom management skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
QUALIFICATIONS:
An ideal candidate would have any special education license but emphasis in EBD, OHD, or SLD is preferred per student demographics and three or more years experience in teaching Special Education. Due process skills are not necessary. We seek a candidate that has effective work experience with students and families from different cultures; and the ability to work with diversity and dual language students. Career Pathways is willing to assist with licensure in some circumstances. Experience as a teacher and / or tutoring a plus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Training in Developmental Designs, Project Based Learning, work transitions, and experiential learning. Successful experience working with at-risk and diverse populations.
