Description
The Special Education Supervisor is responsible for providing instructional and programmatic leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality special education programming and services to students in assigned schools. The Special Education Supervisor works collaboratively with the High School Special Education Coordinator, building-level administration, and support staff to assist with day-to-day support of special education students.
- This is a 261 day a year position.
- Salary range: $90,000-$100,000 depending on qualifications. Salary will be prorated to the start date.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
- Support special education staff in assigned schools in the selection, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based and evidence-informed instructional practices; assist IEP teams to develop and implement high quality, standards-based special education services that result in meaningful student outcomes.
- Support classroom teachers and special education teachers in IEP implementation, instructional leadership for co-teaching, and resolving classroom academic issues and behavioral concerns. Lead professional development on topics, trends and best practices in special education.
- As assigned by the High School Special Education Coordinator, a building administrator, or the Director of Special Services, serve as a district representative at IEP meetings for students in assigned schools and/or served outside the district.
- Serve as a resource to staff in assigned schools in the areas of positive behavior supports and crisis prevention and intervention; support staff, parents, and administrators in the consistent use of
- Be an active participant of the school/district threat assessment team. Engage in and/or lead the process and procedures of student threat assessments including the ongoing management and support of the student who is demonstrating concerning behaviors.
- In collaboration with the High School Special Education Coordinator and building-level Administration, provide day-to-day support of special education students including:
- Assisting with student discipline issues
- Creating student schedules
- Being aware of student attendance and truancy information
- Writing custom graduation plans when deemed appropriate by the IEP team
- Serving as contact person for and facilitating needs of students programmed outside the district (eg. 917 transportation, 917 graduation diplomas, transitions in/out of ISD194, etc.)
- Employ data-informed decision-making techniques to drive student improvement, know how to locate, analyze, interpret and present data to various stakeholders in assigned schools.
- Facilitate collaborative relationships among parents, school personnel, and representatives of other agencies and organizations.
- Collect building-level data to assist the High School Special Education Coordinator and Director of Special Services in the development of annual staffing plans.
- As directed by the High School Special Education Coordinator, coordinate/facilitate special education department meetings, model effective and positive problem-solving skills and foster collaborative communication between parties.
- Collaborate with building administrators regarding the work of non-licensed special education staff including: assignments/scheduling, role responsibilities, service delivery models, best practices, professional development and performance evaluation.
- Transport self among District facilities, other educational sites, and regional/state meetings as necessary.
- Maintain accessibility to the High School Special Education Coordinator and Director of Special Services via cell phone and/or email during the workday.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned by the High School Special Education Coordinator or Director of Special Services
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Preference to candidates with a current Minnesota Director of Special Education license, or enrolled in coursework towards licensure.
- Master’s degree in Special Education field.
- Two or more years of experience developing, implementing and evaluating special programs and working with students with low incidence disabilities.
- Group facilitation and conflict resolution training and experience.
- Experience with general education curriculum and differentiated instruction at the grade levels in assigned school(s).
- Experience training and coaching special educators in the implementation of evidence-based strategies aligned to IEP needs.
- Ability to establish collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to use vocal communication to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and convey details or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.
- Ability to see things up close and at a distance, adjust focus, and use depth perception/color perception/peripheral vision.
- Ability to hear, to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communication and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
- Strong written communication
sskills. - Valid Minnesota driver’s license without restrictions.
- Ability to use a variety of digital devices and office equipment to efficiently complete job duties.
- Google Suite experience preferred.
