This is an hourly position.
We offer benefits and the salary range is $17.00 to $23.00 depending upon training, education, and experience. Some flexibility in hours will be considered depending upon the needs of the students. Students are in the building 8:30am to 3:05pm. The average staff workday is 7:30 to 3:30.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
General Responsibilities
Assist professional school personnel in classrooms, educational programs, buses, lunchrooms, and other areas as needed. The paraprofessional works under close supervision of a special education teacher, classroom teacher, and administrative team.
Responsibilities to Assist all Teachers include:
- Provide academic support to students in reading, language, spelling, mathematics, social studies, and other subjects as employed by the classroom teacher
- Record accurate data as requested
- Follow daily / weekly schedule that varies based on student and staff attendance
- Assist in organizing and maintaining instructional materials
- Participate in the elective program activities with students
- Perform other similar tasks and duties as required
- Maintain a safe and supportive school environment
- Maintain student confidentiality
One on One Responsibility:
- Assist, monitor and model school appropriate behavior
- Assist and monitor student behavior and academic needs in the classroom and out of the classroom as instructed by the students IEP.
- Maintain full support to the child during the regular instructional day as indicated in the child’s IEP.
- If the child is absent from school: paraprofessional will support in the area of Special Education to supplement instructional activities or to provide extended practice under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics
- Basic skills in typing and duplicating may be required for some positions
- Ability to develop good relationships with students, parents and staff
- Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others
- Ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness, and understanding
- Ability to work with special educational students
- Must be on time to your job everyday
- Basic understanding of confidentiality and data privacy.
- Must have the endurance for lengthy physical activity that includes long periods of walking and standing, must be able to lift 40 pounds
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Meet the Highly Qualified certification requirements (ie. passing score on the ParaPro Exam, a 2 year degree, or another certification program)
- Experience working in an urban public school or community education program
- Training in conflict resolution and de escalation techniques
- Interest in contributing in other ways to support the needs of students (Robotics, PE, Coaching, Film Making or Recording Arts)
- Bilingual
- Experience with different cultures than your own
