Position Summary:
Performs intermediate human support work assisting classroom teachers by working with special needs students individually or in small groups, and related work as apparent or assigned. This position includes Child Study support for special education due procceses. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Building Principal and Director of Student Support Services.Â
Child Study Essential Functions:
Performs intermediate administrative support work creating and maintaining accurate special education student data and files, updating and notifying parties of due process meetings, attending and recording child study meetings in accordance with state and federal law and rules, and related work as apparent or assigned.
Maintain current and accurate student databases in district student information system and special education data system.
Maintain a calendar/schedule of assessments, IEP meetings, pre-assessment or pre-IEP planning meetings; attend weekly child study team meetings; provide updated meeting calendar(s) to building special education lead.
Maintain an up-to-date supply of child study and third party billing forms.
Ensure that child study files are created, kept current, organized and transferred between buildings per District policies and procedures.
Schedule and communicate to parents and all personnel involved in IEP meetings, assessment planning meetings and evaluation summary report meetings.
Distribute and document permission forms for evaluations/reevaluations and proposed special education service; adjust service dates; activate IEPs is special education database. Provide up-to-date student caseload and student count information to building special education lead and special education supervisor/coordinator.
Demonstrates excellent customer service to students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and /or Experience:Â
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience working with children
Associates/Technical degree preferred.Â
Experience supporting students with special education needs
Experience organizing and managing special education paperwork
Special Requirements:
Must hold AA/AS degree, completed 60 semester credits, approved competency portfolio or pass MN Parapro test
Training in Blood Borne Pathogens upon hire.
Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention within 6-12 months upon hire as needed for program.
Valid driver’s license in the State of Minnesota.
