Job Summary:
The Special Education Instructional Coach is responsible for supporting and mentoring certified staff who are new to the field of Special Education and/or the member districts of the SNWSEC. The coach will provide professional development and individualized support to enhance the implementation of evidence-based practices, foster quality instruction, and improve student outcomes. This role includes modeling classroom-based instruction and interventions, conducting fidelity checks, and offering guidance on best practices for Special Education due process. Coaches will collaborate with administrators, teacher leaders, and district specialists to design and deliver professional development, analyze data, and use it to guide instructional decisions. This assignment also serves as an opportunity for the coach to develop leadership skills. The individual in this position shall serve a term of up to three-years and shall be approved for renewal in the position annually at the sole discretion of the School District.  Full job description attached.

License & Experience:

  • Licensed to teach in the State of Minnesota – required.
  • Instructional coaching, professional development or graduate study – preferred.
  • Advanced degree – preferred.
  • Experience in evidence-based instructional practice – preferred.
  • Requires 5 or more years of classroom experience working with students – preferred
  • Requires strong and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Special Education due process.
  • Prefer experience working with small groups of students and/or providing reading interventions.
  • Prefer experience with coaching of certified staff.
  • Experience facilitating professional development – preferred.

Essential Skills:

  • Collaborate with Special Education teachers to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide guidance on best practices for Special Education instruction and interventions.
  • Support Special Education staff in adhering to legal requirements and district policies.
  • Conduct fidelity checks on Special Education programs and interventions.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of professional development specific to Special Education needs and practices.
  • Work with administrators to analyze Special Education data to guide instructional decisions and professional development.
  • Establishes a culture for learning by supporting the mission, beliefs and the strategic plan of the district
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students, staff and families
  • Experience working with diverse students and families – experience/training with CLR (Culturally Linguistically Responsive) methods preferred
