Position Overview: STEP Academy seeks a compassionate and experienced Special Education Coordinator to lead our special education program. The Special Education Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and assessment of our special education services and programs. This role is pivotal in ensuring that students with diverse learning needs receive quality education tailored to their individual profiles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive special education programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for each student qualifying for special education services.
- Train and support teachers and staff in best practices for special education, including differentiation of instruction and inclusive education.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of special education services and make adjustments as needed.
- Maintain confidential student records and ensure that documentation complies with all governing laws and regulations.
- Serve as the primary contact for parents and external agencies involved in the education of students with special needs.
- Advocate for students with disabilities and their families to ensure they receive appropriate accommodations and support.
- Coordinate and supervise the work of special education staff and related service providers.
- Manage budgets and procure resources necessary for the special education program.
- Stay updated on the latest developments and best practices in special education through ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Special Education or related field required.
- Valid Special Education Credential or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in special education, with at least 1 year in a leadership or administrative capacity.
- In-depth knowledge of IDEA, ADA, and other relevant education laws.
- Proven ability to lead and train staff and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Passionate about educational equity and inclusivity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a charter school environment.
- Bilingual abilities.
