DAVINCI ACADEMY BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Special Education Behavior Interventionist 

 

REPORTS TO:  Special Education Director

 

SUMMARY: 

 

The Behavior Specialist is responsible for implementing strategies and interventions to support positive student behavior and promote a safe and conducive learning environment. This role involves collaborating with teachers, administrators, students, and parents to address behavior challenges and develop effective behavior plans.

 

Essential Functions:

     1.)  Behavioral Assessment: 

 

– Conduct functional behavioral assessments to identify underlying causes of challenging

   behaviors.

– Analyze behavior data and observations to determine patterns and triggers.

– Collaborate with teachers and staff to gather information about student behavior.

 

     2.)  Behavior Intervention Planning:

– Develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on assessment results.

– Design strategies and interventions to address specific behavioral goals and objectives.

– Provide clear and actionable recommendations to teachers and support staff.

 

     3.)  Implementation and Training:

 

– Train teachers, staff, and parents on behavior intervention techniques and strategies.

– Model and demonstrate effective behavior management techniques.

– Provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure consistent implementation of interventions.

 

      4.) Data Collection and Analysis:

 

            – Monitor and record student behavior data to track progress and make data-driven decisions.

            – Analyze behavior data to identify trends and adjust interventions as needed.

            – Maintain accurate and organized records of behavior plans and outcomes.        

 

      5.) Collaboration:  

 

– Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other specialists to develop cohesive behavior 

               support plans.

            – Communicate regularly with parents or guardians to share progress and strategies. 

– Attend team meetings to discuss student progress and adjust interventions as necessary.

 

      6.) Crisis Management:   

 

– Intervene in crisis situations involving escalated behavior, ensuring the safety of all students

               and staff.

– Implement de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors and prevent potential 

   harm.

 

      7.) Professional Development:

 

– Stay updated on current research, best practices, and trends in behavior intervention and

    special education.

–  Attend workshops, seminars, and conferences related to behavior management and 

    intervention.  

 

       8.) Documentation and Reporting:

 

        – Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of behavior assessments, plans, and progress.

– Generate reports and summaries for teachers, administrators, and parents as required. 

 

       9.) Resource Development: 

 

  – Develop and compile resources, materials, and tools to support teachers and staff in behavior 

               management.

– Create visual aids, social stories, and other materials to assist students in understanding 

   appropriate behaviors. 

 

     10.) Advocacy and Support: 

 

            – Advocate for the inclusion and appropriate support of students with behavior challenges.   

            – Collaborate with special education teams to ensure the implementation of individualized

               education plans (IEPs).
 

Qualifications:

Required: Associates Degree

Preferred: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in School Psychology, Special Education, or related field.

Relevant certifications in behavior analysis or behavior intervention preferred.

Strong understanding of behavioral principles and strategies.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations and effectively manage crisis situations.

Candidates will be highly qualified with either a two year degree and/or a passing score on the ParaPro assessment

Duty Days: 186 days on which the employee is assigned to perform services.
Salary Range:  $21.00 – $27.50
