Hutchinson Public Schools has multiple Special Education Assistant Bus Rider positions available throughout the district. This position will work 165-175 days per year based on the school calendar and training and hours per day would be determined based on bus route(s).  Bus routes are available in the morning, afternoon or both. 

Special Education Assistant Bus Riders will provide assistance and monitor individual students who are on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) while they are on the school bus making sure school rules are followed to ensure student safety.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Observe students, checking for appropriate and safe behaviors.
  • Assist in conflict resolution as well as other needs including: tying shoes, zipping coats, etc.
  • Assist the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management.  Observe, record, and chart behaviors.
  • Work with other staff and students to create a positive, efficient and safe school environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards by adhering to the district’s data privacy policy.

Required Qualifications (one of the following): 
Those interested in the position that do not meet one of the required qualifications are still encouraged to apply as the ParaPro/ParaEducator Test can be completed during the application/interview process.

  • Associates Degree
  • 60 semester college credits
  • Passing score on the ParaPro test 
  • Passing Score on the ParaEducator test
