POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a leadership position that manages the development, implementation and evaluation of the district-wide early childhood preschool program with the primary goals of excellence and the provision of a robust beginning to life-long learning for students. Specific program area responsibilities include supervision of Small Wonders Preschool, Small Wonders All Day Academy, and Small Wonders Summer Classes and Camps. The Small Wonders Preschool program is currently located at the Crystal Lake Education Center. 

  • This is a 261 day a year position. 
  • Salary range: $85,000 – $95,0000 depending on qualifications.  Salary will be prorated to the start date.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  1.  In collaboration with the Director of Early Childhood, creates a mission and vision, as well as sets goals and objectives for the Small Wonders Preschool, Small Wonders All Day Academy, and Small Wonders Summer Classes and Camps program areas that are supportive of the Early Childhood and district missions, visions and strategic plans.
  2. Manages the operations of the program areas including strategic planning, staffing, registrations and resource utilization. Develops systems and procedures to make the operational functions of the program areas efficient and effective.
  3. Serves as a leader and main point of contact for Small Wonders Preschool Teachers and Assistants to address day to day needs and requests.
  4. Manages the program area budget planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation systems and procedures. Recommends the program area preliminary budget and revised budget to the Director of Community Education Services and the Director of Early Childhood.
  5. Oversees the program area administration, including retention of data privacy, of fee assistance, grants and scholarships as well as soliciting additional funding.
  6. Manages the purchase of supplies and equipment and oversees the use, organization and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  7. Interviews, selects, trains, supervises, and directs program area staff including Small Wonders Preschool program coordinator, teachers, and assistants. Personally fills vacancies or absences when necessary.
  8. Makes recommendations to the Director of Community Early Learning regarding contract negotiations with bargaining groups such as Small Wonders Instructors, Lakeville Education Assistants Federation (LEAF). Serves as a member of the District’s contract negotiation team for the Small Wonders Instructors’ contract.
  9. Conducts program area assessments, evaluations and surveys with participants, parents, staff and community members and makes recommendations for improvement and development. Provides technical assistance to staff as needed.
  10. Collaborates with the Early Childhood Family Outreach Specialist in overseeing the School Readiness and Scholarship program in accordance with statutes and provides information/data for the biannual school readiness plan and annual Community Education State Report, etc.
  11. Works in collaboration with the Director of Early Learning to carry out program area security and safety systems and procedures including: Scheduling, supervising, and evaluating fire, severe weather, lock down and other safety drills and practices to ensure compliance with District policy as well as governmental laws and regulations.
  12. Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of program area systems and procedures that ensure adequate personnel, financial and technology controls according to District policy as well as governmental laws and regulations.
  13. Conducts curriculum reviews and leads the process for selecting program curriculum. Integrates Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIPS) and facilitates the alignment and support of curriculum development based on developmentally appropriate practices. Reviews, evaluates and directs lesson and activity plans of instructional staff.
  14. Determines the program area professional development needs. Develops and plans training, as well as manages the implementation of both on-going and special-interest training. Seeks out and identifies opportunities for ongoing professional development of self and staff. Is a member of the Early Childhood Education and Small Wonders Preschool Professional Learning Communities and the Minnesota Community Education Association.
  15. Manages program area marketing efforts including designing and editing flyers, brochures, press releases, listservs, web sites, social media, etc.
  16. Maintains attendance, participant, staff, independent contractor and program area records in accordance with district policy and governmental laws and regulations, including: certifications, licenses, background check authorizations and liability insurance.
  17. Collaborates with the Director of Early Learning, Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator, Extended School Services Director, Family Outreach Specialist, and staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of collaborative and inclusive programming.
  18. Participates and contributes to the Early Childhood Shared Leadership Team and Community Education Leadership group to provide professional perspectives, problem solving, strategic planning, systems development, as well as policy and procedure creation and revision.
  19. Represents Early Childhood Education at special events as well as within community groups. Contributes to department and district committees as well as represents program areas at student and parent meetings.
  20. Delivers a high standard of customer service including serving as the primary contact for program area problem solving, conflict resolution and making reasonable adaptations or special accommodations for participants.
  21. Performs duties with awareness of all district requirements and procedures, Board of Education policies, as well as governmental laws, rules and regulations.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Specific training or job experience required before appointment) :

  1. B.A. or B.S. Degree in early childhood education, or related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
  2. Three to five years of leadership experience in an early childhood preschool program, including staff supervision, and program development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Three or more years of teaching experience in early childhood education is preferred.
  2. Group facilitation, team building and conflict resolution training and experience are preferred.
  3. Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills.
  4. Excellent planning and organization skills.
  5. Proficient using Windows and Apple and Google Suite operating systems. Proficient in software systems including word processing, desktop and web publishing, spreadsheets, databases, and communications software.
  6. Working knowledge of student information systems (Infinite Campus), program registration systems (Eleyo), and staff time management systems (Time Clock Plus).
