Description
The Math and Science Academy is hiring a Second Semester General Education Paraprofessional to work on student contact days. This role provides educational support, based on system and student needs related to mathematics interventions.
Required: Bachelor of Science or Arts degree or a minimum of three years of paraprofessional experience with two years of education beyond high school. Candidates need to feel comfortable helping MSA students in grades 6 through 12 in mathematics.
Schedule: Student contact days with a daily schedule to allow one-to-one or small group support, explanation, and/or reteaching as needed. Assigned students may be served in special education. Estimated to work 9am-4pm, and approximately 37 hours per week. Hours per week may change depending on student contact days.

Essential Duties:

Follow through with assigned duties.

Establishes a rapport with students and assists in learning lessons developed and presented by the teacher.

Explains and interprets class assignments

Decides when discipline should be instituted on a one-to-one or small group basis as directed by the classroom teacher

Provides learning and re-teaching of lessons as needed and as directed by the classroom teacher

Provides learning and re-teaching of lessons as needed

Observe/Chart student progress as directed.

Serve as a Check & Connect mentor to assigned students.

Redirect students who are off-task.

Assist students with transitions between activities/classes.

Maintain confidentiality.

Be a positive role model; modeling school appropriate behavior at all times.

Attend school sponsored training when appropriate.

Assist special education case managers as directed.

Communicate questions/concerns through proper channels.

Communicate/alert teacher with student concerns, missing assignments.
