Summary

BASIC FUNCTION: School psychologists within River Bend Education District are employed for the purpose of enhancing the educational and social emotional development of students. School Psychologists consult with staff members to plan intervention strategies and provide assessment/reassessment evaluation through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices in the areas of intellectual, cognitive, functional, academic, and behavioral domains of child and adolescent development (birth through 22).

 POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist 

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education 

BASIC FUNCTION: School psychologists within River Bend Education District are employed for the purpose of enhancing the educational and social emotional development of students. School Psychologists consult with staff members to plan intervention strategies and provide assessment/reassessment evaluation through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices in the areas of intellectual, cognitive, functional, academic, and behavioral domains of child and adolescent development (birth through 22). 

This position is part time (20 hours per week) 

This position provides the opportunity to work within a psych team allowing for common planning, weekly psych meetings, and support from other school psychologists within the education district.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. The primary responsibilities of the school psychologist are as follows: a. Coordinate and conduct psycho-educational evaluations of learners who have been referred for potential special education placement following due process guidelines 

b. Assure the evaluation report is complete and to the special education teacher, parent, etc. within the due process timeline 

c. File the record in the member district as soon as complete and retained according to the record retention policy 

d. Submit MA billing paperwork to the MA Billing Specialist within 45 days of the completed report. 

 

 

2. Work with district staff to develop pre-referral interventions as required. 

 

3. Provide consultation to school personnel, parents and others for the remediation of learner’s learning and adjustment problems. 

 

 

4. Assist, as a member of the multidisciplinary staffing team, in making special education placement decisions and developing long-range goals and instructional objectives. 

 

5. Assist the Director of Special Education in the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of special education programs and services as directed. 

 

6. Short term crisis intervention/conflict resolution to provide crisis intervention in emergency situations as directed. 

 

7. Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

1. MN Licensure as School Psychologist, Pre K-12 

 

2. Demonstrated ability to organize activities, communicate ideas both verbally and in writing, and to maintain positive professional working relationships with colleagues. 

 

3. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials, assessment kits, equipment or other necessary job-related items weighing up to 20 pounds. 

 

4. Ability to transport self among member districts and to regional and state meetings as necessary. 

 

OTHER BONUS 

1. School Psychologists have the option to work on paperwork from home on most Fridays. 

 

2. River Bend Staff who work past their required hours are eligible to accumulate flex time which can be used for personal time within a one year period.

*The ideal candidate will provide a full range of psychological services to support the academic and behavioral needs of students ages birth to 21 in one or more sites. This includes providing consultation to school staff and parents, problem-solving, evaluation services, working collaboratively with school staff in general and special education environments, and managing related responsibilities regarding due process procedures and mandates. This position requires that the school psychologist be committed to providing services that are culturally competent and developmentally appropriate. The candidate must be knowledgeable in types of behavioral and academic interventions and evaluation instruments. They must be proficient in all aspects of instruction including student and classroom management, assessment, and instructional delivery. The candidate must be willing and able to work with students with different types of disabilities who are in need of behavioral, mental health, social skill, and academic interventions. The candidate must be committed to continuous self improvement and professional learning.
