Job Description: Program Lead

POSITION TITLE:  Explorer Club and Little Explorers Program Lead 

Term:  9 or 12 month Month Hourly Employee 

Accountable to:  Site Supervisor 

 

Primary Objective of the Position:

Provides guidance and mentorship to other child care teachers in their grade level and group. To act as a positive role model for youth and staff, providing guidance and leadership. Follow and lead lesson plans, manage classroom behavior and provide after-school tutoring. Help develop and provide physical activity, cultural enrichment, intellect, social skills, and support the health and wellness of the child. The Program Lead is responsible for carrying out the activities and duties assigned by the Program Site Supervisor, Assistant Site Supervisor, and Program Coordinator.   

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Site Supervisor in monitoring all aspects of the child care site.

  • Lead, support, and guide children in group situations and games, indoor and outdoor activities. 

  • Maintain supervision and safety standards of Explorer Club and Little Explorers programs.

  • Plan, prep, lead, and implement daily schedules and activities based on age group.

  • Provide input and feedback to the Site Supervisor in planning monthly activities.

  • Administer basic first aid when needed and submit accident/incident reports in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for the safety of the group, use active supervision, account for the group at all times and maintain ratios.  

  • Is a mandated reporter and follows mandated reporting guidelines by the county and state.

  • Communicate effectively with LILA staff, families, children, co-workers, site supervisor, coordinator, and the child care director.

  • Act in a professional manner at all times. Expected to represent themselves as a representative of Explorer Club/Little Explorers and Lakes International Language Academy.  

  • Delegate activities and other classroom responsibilities to support staff or program aides.

  • Accepts the responsibility to work beyond regularly scheduled hours in case of a late start or an early dismissal of school.

  • Expected to be available for snow days and non-school days.

  • Accepts the responsibility to work beyond job description as situations arise.

  • Assist with set-up and breakdown of site programs. 

  • Attend other duties assigned by the Site Supervisor and Coordinator.   

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be 16 years of age

  • Experience working with young children. 

  • Must work a minimum of 20 hours per week unless taking sick time or vacation time.  

  • English Fluency 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Acquired or working toward MN Child Care Credential or National Child Development Credential 

  • Spanish/Chinese proficiency 

  • CPR/First Aid Certified (training can be provided).

 

Physical Requirements: This position requires vocal communication, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, use of hands to grasp and feel, and vision abilities including close, distance, and adjusting focus.  Lifting/moving required frequently up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds or more.  Work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and is generally in a moderately noisy location.
