Job Summary

At Aurora Charter School, we believe our greatest resource is the people who form our team.   The Reserve Teacher/Paraprofessional under the supervision of the principal is responsible on a daily basis to collaborate with Special Education Case Managers and substitute on an on call basis. 

Duties/Responsibilities as Paraprofessional:  

  • Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills. 

  • Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.

  • Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.

  • Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.

  • Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.

  • Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.

  • Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.

  • Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Duties/Responsibilities as Reserve Teacher:  

  • Complete the lesson plan left by the teacher

  • Complete extra duties the teacher may normally do (i.e. bus duty, hall duty, lunch room duty)

  • Make sure the room is in order and picked up at the end of the day

  • Write a detailed note to the teacher explaining what happened during the day

  • Follow and enforce the rules of the school and classroom

  • Collaborates with other staff members, participates in faculty meetings, Aurora professional development opportunities and committees.

  • Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including curriculum nights, parent/teacher conferences  and school events. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.     

Required Skills/Abilities:    

  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred not required

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible work environment.

  • Position involves lifting, twisting, and turning.

Education and Experience:

  • Must have at least a BA degree (in any area) 

  • Must have a valid Minnesota standard teaching license or the ability to obtain a Short Call license. 

  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment, must possess a valid Minnesota Driver’s License or state identification, must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, and must comply with organizational and district policies. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds.  

  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis.

  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading

Pay: Salary will be determined by experience and licensing
