Job Summary
The reading intervention paraprofessional is to assist, support, and work closely with teachers, academic leaders, and other operational team members in providing educational benefits for students and overall support for the organization. The reading intervention paraprofessional should create a flexible educational program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

JOB FUNCTION

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject manner.
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outline by certified staff
  • Covers classes for teachers as needed (Substitute). Must work with HR to obtain short call sub license if applicable.
  • Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Monitors work, corrects papers, and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff.
  • Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified staff.
  • Alerts the certified staff to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Performs assigned supervision of students during breakfast/lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips.
  • Performs assigned non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack time, toileting, and clothing routines.
  • When requested, serves as a resource person to other departments
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as provided and approved.
  • Maintains safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety minded in the performance of all school-related duties.
  • Effectively collects and maintains evidence of meetings.
