Preschool Teacher (Spanish)

Our unique dual language program is designed around the three pillars of dual language education; Bilingualism and Biliteracy, high academic achievement, and socio-cultural competence. We strive to ensure that each child develops strong biliteracy skills, achieves at their highest potential, and develops a socio-cultural competence that helps them develop into noble citizens of our community.

At Aurora Charter School, we believe our greatest resource is the people who form our team.   The Preschool Teacher under the supervision of the principal is responsible for creating a dual-language immersion (Spanish) classroom environment that ensures learning and personal growth of every student;motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a smooth transition into Kindergarten. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Create, manage and participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives.

  • Create and deliver lesson plans, implement school curriculum, and assess developmental needs of students.

  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment.

  • Communicate positively with students, parents and staff.

  • Participate collaboratively and professionally with other teachers and staff to promote the general well-being of the school, and collective/individual interest of its staff and student body.

  • Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities. 

  • Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including curriculum nights, and school events. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), possess an Academic Spanish level

  • Knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation in target languages  

  • Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior  

  • Able to manage student behavior in classroom setting  

  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form in both targeted languages 

  • Able to work well with others in the school community  

  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously  

  • Skill in pacing and differentiating instruction  

  • Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process  

  • Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format  

  • Skill in job appropriate technology  

  • Skill in critical thinking and planning

Education and Experience:

  • B- Grade 3 Early Childhood Education, an Endorsement in Bilingual Education a plus

  • Must be proficient in Academic Spanish

  • Familiarity with Teaching Strategies Curriculum and TS Gold Assessment.

  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment, must possess a valid Minnesota Driver’s License or state identification, must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, and must comply with organizational and district policies. 

  Physical Requirements: 

  • Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds.  

  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis.

  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
