Job Summary: The Pre-K-5th Grade Content Coordinator provides leadership and support in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices across all subject areas in grades early childhood through fifth grade. This role focuses on fostering excellence in teaching and learning through structured literacy, explicit skill-building for early learners, and alignment with district goals. The position promotes equity, innovation, and continuous improvement in instructional practices to ensure all students reach their full potential.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the Instruction and Achievement Team
- Supervise and facilitate the curriculum review cycle across all early childhood through fifth-grade content areas
- Ensure a strong emphasis on structured literacy, explicit skill-building, and evidence-based practices for early learners
- Implement explicit, systematic phonics and mathematical instruction and skill-based learning strategies
- Ensure curriculum alignment and inclusivity for all students in collaboration with special education staff
- Provide leadership for program evaluation and data collection to drive continuous improvement
- Ensure integration of inquiry-based learning, formative assessment, and technology to support student learning
- Identify instructional needs and deliver targeted professional development on structured literacy, foundational skills, and content best practices
- Develop and oversee professional development calendars
- Mentor and support building administrators and teachers in implementing instructional strategies for early literacy and numeracy development
- Recruit, screen, hire, train, assign, and evaluate personnel
- Supervise assigned certified and classified personnel to ensure alignment with district goals
- Provide guidance and support to staff, including co-teaching or demonstrating instructional strategies as needed
- Formulate and manage designated team budgets
- Ensure compliance with district policies related to procurement and bidding criteria
- Facilitate district long-term and short-term planning for instructional initiatives and curriculum development by convening and leading committees to address curriculum, instruction, and achievement needs.
- Partner with building administrators to support instructional initiatives through accountability and support strategies
- Foster partnerships with external organizations, including businesses, early learning centers, higher education institutions, and community organizations
- Support and align programming for magnet schools and ensure vertical articulation
- Lead and support innovative programming focused on early literacy, numeracy, and skill-building
- Collaborate on special projects and instructional initiatives to meet evolving district needs
- Prepare and present board exhibits with the Director of Instruction and Achievement
- Participate in district leadership activities as assigned
- Perform other responsibilities related to curriculum, instruction, and achievement as assigned
Education and/or Experience
- Current Minnesota teaching license
- Current Minnesota administrative license or a willingness to pursue administrative license
- Master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction or related field
- Minimum seven years’ experience in one or more of the following areas:
- K-12 classroom teaching
- Instructional leadership
- Curriculum development
- Staff supervision
- Structured literacy
- Foundational skill-building
- Evidence based early learning strategies
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient in working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community
- Knowledge of and experience with instructional best practices across early childhood through fifth-grade content areas
- Experience with data analysis, program evaluation, and systematic instructional improvement.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Experience with technology integration to support foundational skill-building and inquiry-based learning.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
