The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our team for the 2024-25 school year as a Middle School Project Lead the Way (PLTW) STEAM Science Teacher for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.   BCCS is looking for positive, energetic applicants with a deep belief that every student can learn, and having the commitment and passion to provide these learning opportunities. The Middle School Project Lead the Way (PLTW) STEAM Science Teacher provides lab-based classroom instruction using Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway courses for learners in grades 6-8.  PLTW is a STEM program that engages students in hands-on activities, projects, and problems in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Provide high-quality daily instruction in a lab-based environment through the implementation of two nine-week foundational PLTW Gateway courses (Design and Modeling; Automation and Robotics) to all students in grades 6-8.
•Ensure achievement and mastery of Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core Mathematics, Common Core English Language Arts, Technological Literacy, and any additional academic standards outlined in the PLTW courses.
•Creates a safe, empowering, and inspiring learning environment for students.
•Establishes positive, asset-based, and culturally responsive relationships with students and families.
•Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning.
•Monitors, advises, coaches, and supports student behavior management to ensure a safe, supportive, welcoming learning environment.
•Adapts teaching materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
•Effectively collaborates and communicates with all other middle school teams/departments.
•Regularly shares learning goals and updates families on student learning progress.
•Participates in required online PLTW Readiness Training.
•Encourages students to think independently, develop and express original ideas.
•Evaluates student progress; maintains appropriate records; prepares progress reports.
•Communicates with students, student counselors, and parents through conferences and other means.
•Maintains professional competence through in-service education and self-selected professional books and instructional materials.
•Participates in ongoing professional learning opportunities as required.
•Attends state and local meetings as required.
•Communicates and collaborates with district IT department and Teaching and Learning department regarding technology, software, infrastructure, and curriculum progress and/or challenges.
•Collaborates with principals to ensure program coherence and fidelity of program implementation.
•Other duties as apparent or assigned. 

Qualifications: MN Teaching licensure, Middle School Science, Math, or Industrial Arts. Previous experience working with diverse populations and urban school settings is preferred. A minimum of three years of experience as a middle school teacher.

Pay and Benefits: $45,008/year- $98,396/year, based on experience and education

Duty Days: 197 duty days,  includes 8 paid holidays!  * This position requires 4 weeks of training during summer break*

Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Knowledge of and experience with developmental stages of adolescent learners;
  • Knowledge of and experience with STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) curriculum and instruction;
  • Comprehensive pedagogical knowledge for effective instruction and assessment of middle school science content and standards;
  • Thorough knowledge of school and district rules, regulations, and procedures;
  • At least one year of experience facilitating instruction through the use and application of technology;
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators with varying degrees of experience and expertise.
