JOB SUMMARY:
A Preschool-Age Child Care Paraprofessional provides essential support to lead teachers in fostering a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for preschool-aged children. This role involves assisting with daily routines, supervising playtime and educational activities, and supporting children’s social, emotional, and developmental needs. Additional responsibilities include preparing materials, ensuring classroom safety, and helping children develop independence through hands-on guidance. Ideal candidates possess patience, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for supporting early childhood growth and learning.
Work Requirements and Characteristics:
Education/Certification/Licensure:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a 1040 child contact hours using a combination of district training programs, experience, and coursework of an equivalent nature and level to perform the requirements of the work.
- CPI, CPR and First Aid Certified or willing to become certified within the first 90 days of employment
- Valid Minnesota Driver’s License
Experience:
- 1-3 years of youth programming experience preferred
- Must be 18 years of age
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work effectively with students of all ages and abilities in a positive manner
- Ability to communicate in oral, written and web-based communication format with district personnel, staff and families
- Ability to exercise confidentiality in handling district information
Electronic Devices, and Software:
- Utilizes technology related to childcare programming and youth enrichment
- Operates office equipment including computer, telephone, printer, copier, and scanner
- Uses Gmail to receive district communication
Physical Job Requirements:
- Position involves occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Position requires extended periods of standing, bending, sitting and physically assisting students
- Position involves listening, speaking clearly, and visual acuity
Mental Job Requirements:
- Position involves responding to changing technology
- Position involves maintaining professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations
- Position involves dealing with multiple situations simultaneously while dealing with constant interruptions
- Position requires attention to many areas at a time
Working Conditions:
- Duties may include traveling within the District according to programming locations
- Majority of work is performed in a busy and noisy classroom
- Position may involve occasional exposure to blood/bodily fluids and airborne pathogens Position involves occasional exposure to outside temperatures and weather conditions Position may involve risk of occasional physical injury from student and/or emotional outbursts
