LOCATION: MTS Elementary
DESCRIPTION: Under the direct supervision of the principal, the paraprofessional will support students and staff to ensure that each student’s academic and social emotional needs are met to allow the student to be successful and reach his/her potential.
HOURS: Monday-Friday: regular school hours
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assess student functioning, both formally and informally, to identify factors that may negatively impact his or her education while also assessing student strengths.
- Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, hallway, and other related non-instructional areas.
- Accompany students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
- Work collaboratively with the principal, MTSS Lead, MTSS Team, and social worker to ensure proper educational programming for students.
- Provide support to individuals and groups to encourage student engagement at school.
- Promote consistent school attendance.
- Provide crisis intervention services for students, and support problem solving for issues arising during the school day. In multidisciplinary teams to support student well-being
- Work collaboratively with school staff to address student behavior and challenges while at school
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams to support student engagement and success
- Maintain thorough documentation, espeically around interventions occuring during the school day
- Excellent communication skills: both orally and in writing.
- Work well with persons of different cultures, races, and socio-economic backgrounds
- Ability to work with a wide variety of students in a calm, patient, understanding, creative, flexible, student-centered environment
- Good interpersonal skills, relationship skills, team player and professional demeaner
- Maintain confidentiality
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
- Proficient with basic computer programs including, but not limited to, Google and Microsoft Office products.
