Position Overview:

Pine Island School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraeducator to join our 5-12 building to support students with disabilities. We're looking for a flexible and dedicated team player who is committed to fostering student independence and success. In this role, you’ll support students with disabilities in both special and general education settings, support and model positive behavior with students, and adapt to changing schedules. We’re looking for someone whose enthusiasm and dedication will help our students excel and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Assist students with disabilities in special education and general education settings by supporting implementation of IEP accommodations.

  • Behavior Support: Support students in adopting positive behaviors by implementing strategies as directed by the Special Education Teacher and behavior interventionist.

  • General Education Support: Support students in understanding and completing their learning tasks effectively.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, interventionist, and other staff members to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of support provided and time spent with students with disabilities. Provide regular updates to the Special Education Teacher and collaborate teachers on any significant concerns.

  • Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and student support.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.

  • Previous experience working with students with disabilities is highly desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about various disabilities and effective support strategies.

  • Ability to support challenging behaviors and provide a supportive learning environment.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students.
