Description:Â Paraeducator Building Subsitute
Job Summary: The Paraeducator Building Substitute reports to the school every day and is then assigned their location based on vacancy needs each day. This position works every student contact day, however, if there is no need at the Middle School, they could be assigned to another building for the day. When an opening for a Paraeducator position becomes available the substitute would have the potential to shift into the position.
Under the direction of licensed and professional instructional staff, this position provides instructional support and assistance to children. Positions assigned to this classification are expected to have gained or learned basic knowledge, skills and fundamentals of learning theory, child development, behavioral management/modification, and general instructional fundamentals in order to work in the classroom with groups of students or 1:1 in the areas of instructional reinforcement and student learning assistance. Responsibilities and duties are performed under the immediate supervision of licensed instructional personnel and involve assisting and guiding students in the reinforcement of reading, math, science or other classroom subjects, implementing behavioral plans and/or monitoring and enforcing appropriate behavior in accordance with instructional lesson plans and student IEP’s. Positions assigned to this classification also provide assistance and support in terms of preparing exercises/drill for students better suited to their learning needs, recording tests, copying materials for the classroom, correcting papers/tests, updating and maintaining classroom records, files and supplies.Â
Qualifications: Requires a minimum of an AA Degree; or 90 quarter college credits (60 semester credits); or a score of 460 on the ParaPro Assessment exam; or a score of at least 65% accuracy on Assessment 1 and a 70% accuracy on Assessment 2 of the ParaEducator exam. Previous experience working with children or in a school setting, and/or coursework in child development, human development, learning, behavior management or related coursework is preferred.
License Requirements: No specific licenses or certification required to gain entry into the classification. District may require specific certifications, courses and/or licenses after hiring depending upon the specific job assignment, or needs of the district.
