Program Assistant Terms and Conditions of Employment
Job Level 8 – $61,751 to $79,530 ($29.69 to $38.24 per hour), plus benefits
8.5 hours per day, which includes eight hours of paid time plus 30 minutes of unpaid lunch time per day
52 weeks per year

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Assists in the coordination and training of all School Nutrition programs for Robbinsdale Area Schools with a focus on kitchen support, production guidance, and program technology; this position also assists in ensuring compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations in the operation of the district School Nutrition Programs; this position is responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient kitchen operations across all district kitchens, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director and Assistant Directors of Nutrition Services. This position will regularly travel to schools to ensure quality control compliance and support overall production and workflow. This position will also fill in for absent managers and staff on an as needed basis. Must be comfortable working with quantity food production and management of kitchens.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides technical assistance around kitchen compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations in the operation of the district School Nutrition Programs. 
  • Supports new and ongoing training of kitchen managers and new Nutrition Services program staff.
  • Develops and implements standard operating procedures that ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations across all district kitchens. 
  • Supports the ongoing implementation of Nutrition Services technology across all sites such as point of service, back of the house record keeping, and inventory management. 
  • Manages kitchen operations at any district sites when needed. 
  • Develops new and culturally relevant menu items and manages roll out across all kitchens.
  • Prepares food according to a planned menu and tested, uniform recipes using commercial foodservice equipment.
  • Leads implementation of online inventory system. 
  • Additional duties as assigned

DUTIES AND SKILLS

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of USDA child nutrition programs
  • Maintains cooperative, productive workplace relationships in a manner which creates a pleasant environment for all those being served
  • Operational knowledge of commercial food service equipment used in preparing quantity foods
  • Understands complexity of daily recordkeeping
  • Knowledge of food preparation
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety requirements
  • Knowledge of computerized cash registers
  • Ability to perform job and communicate in a noisy environment
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs. such as milk crates, frozen foods and canned foods

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in food, nutrition, dietetics, culinary arts or related field and experience supporting efficient kitchen work flow and quantity food preparation in the food service industry, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Certified MN Food Protection Manager within 2 months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Minnesota and ability to drive work vans.
