STEP Academy is a K-9 charter school located in Burnsville, Minnesota that serves a student body primarily made up of first generation Somali/East African students. As a destination school, STEP Academy ensures all students are nurtured and empowered to use their personal attributes and acquired knowledge to have the choice to participate in early college entry through the Minnesota PSEO program. STEP Academy is dedicated to the growth and development of our entire learning community: students, staff, parents, and administrators.
The Position:
Full time 6-8 Social Studies/Reading Intervention teacher
Preferred Qualifications:
5-12 Minnesota Tier 2-4 Social Studies teaching license
K-12 Reading license
3+ years experience teaching middle school students
An understanding of Minnesota Graduation Standards for Social Studies Experience working with students from
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Experience working with ELL populations
Cultural competence
Minimum Qualifications:
Any teaching license and willingness to obtain an out of area designation
Bachelor’s degree at any subject
Ability to obtain a Tier 1 or 2 teaching license, and willingness to work toward a higher tier teaching license.
