TITLE SCHOOL NURSE – LPN
SUPERVISOR Building Principal
JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to promote and maintain the health and well-being of all students through providing basic nursing services and developing relationships with students and parents that encourages
                            better student health.
ASSIGNMENT 1. 10 Months – 8 Hour Shift
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
    A. Administers medications, immunizations, and provides vision, hearing and scoliosis screenings.
    B. Monitors student health information including immunizations, required medication, medical conditions and others. Files health records and reports.
    C. Provides first aid to ill and injured students. Distributes first aid supplies.
    D. Monitors student height and weight and updates student records.
    E. Collates and distributes health information to students and staff. Schedules and conducts in-service sessions for health topics. Prepares and photocopies health information.
    F. Maintains health-related supplies and inventory.
    G. Arranges health displays and exhibits.
    H. Checks student attendance records and follows up for students with frequent/prolonged absences for health care concerns.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE
1. Physical Involvement
    A. Position requires the ability to operate a variety of equipment such as medical thermometer, lice comb, eye chart, computer terminal, typewriter, telephone, fax machine, calculator/adding machine, computer printer and
        photocopier.
    B. Position requires the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing movements requiring moderate skill, such as typing.
    C. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects weighting five to ten pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of
         time at a keyboard or workstation.
2. Mental Involvement
    A. Position requires ability complete tasks and meeting deadlines despite constant interruptions
    B. Position requires the ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data and information according to a prescribed scheme or plan
    C. Position requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as regulations, immunization records, attendance records, green slips, medication dictionary, Physicians’ Desk
         Reference, child care provider guidelines, correspondence and general operating manuals.
    D. Position requires the ability to communicate orally and in writing with students, Nursing Assistant, teachers, parents and school support staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as disease, or pathogenic substances.
SUPERVISION OF OTHER EMPLOYEES
1. This position provides supervision and work direction over the nurse’s station area.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Vocational/technical training in practical nursing
3. LPN required
4.Prior nursing experience helpful, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities
5. Certifications in CPR and First Aid required
6. Good organizational and communication skills and the ability to interact with the public
7. Valid Minnesota Driver’s License
8. Must complete the necessary application process and pass a criminal background check and drug screening test
