Position Title: Short-Term Substitute Occupational Therapist (Special Education)
Job Summary:
The Short-Term Substitute Occupational Therapist (OT) will provide services to students receiving special education who require occupational therapy as part of their Individualized Education Program (IEP). The substitute will collaborate with educators, staff, and families to support students’ fine motor, sensory, and self-regulation needs to enhance their participation and success in school-related activities.
Key Responsibilities:

Therapy Services Delivery:
-
Provide direct occupational therapy services to students as outlined in their IEPs.

Conduct small group or one-on-one interventions focused on improving fine motor, visual-motor, sensory integration, and functional skills.

Collaboration and Consultation:
-
Work closely with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and special education staff to implement strategies and accommodations that support students’ participation in school activities.

Communicate with families, as needed, to ensure continuity of services during the short-term assignment.

Documentation and Reporting:

Document services provided, student progress, and relevant observations following school district policies.

Maintain accurate records of therapy sessions and complete any necessary progress reports.

Team Participation:

Attend IEP meetings, if necessary, to provide input on student progress during the short-term period.

Adaptation of Materials:

Create or adapt tools, activities, and materials to support students’ occupational therapy needs during the school day.

Compliance:

Adhere to federal and state special education laws and regulations, including compliance with IEP goals and timelines.

Qualifications:
-
Education:
-
Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Minnesota.

Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.

Experience:
-
Experience working with children in school or pediatric settings preferred.
-
Knowledge of special education processes, IEPs, and related documentation is highly desirable.

Skills:
-
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge of fine motor, sensory, and self-regulation intervention strategies.

Terms of Employment:

Duration: March 15- May 30, 2025

Work Hours: Follows the regular school schedule, including planning and prep time.

Compensation: Based on the district’s substitute pay scale and OT qualifications.

Working with students District wide- Birth to three, Preschool, K-12th grade.Â

Note: This position may require lifting, standing, and moving to assist students physically. Candidates should be prepared to work in various school settings, including classrooms, therapy rooms, and outdoor environments.
