Job Title: Long-Term Substitute English Language Development (ELD) Teacher
Grade Levels: Middle School and High School
Location: St. James Middle School/High School

Job Description:
St. James Middle School/High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate long-term substitute teacher to join our English Language Development (ELD) team. This position will run from approximately March through the end of the school year and focuses on supporting multilingual learners in their academic and linguistic growth.

As part of a collaborative team of three ELD teachers, the long-term substitute will:

  • Teach and support students in dedicated ELD classes following the programming objectives and curriculum.

  • Co-teach in general education classes to support English learners’ language acquisition and academic success.

  • Work with students at a range of English proficiency levels, from newcomers learning foundational English to fluent students needing general academic support.

  • Use research-based strategies provided to promote language development and access to grade-level content.

  • Monitor student progress and adapt instruction to meet individual language and learning needs.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure an inclusive learning environment for English learners.

Qualifications:

  • A valid teaching license for long term substitute teaching

  • Experience teaching or supporting multilingual learners in grades 6-12 is preferred.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff, fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
