Job Summary:
The Locksmith performs work requiring expertise in installing, maintaining and repairing different types of building locks including cylindrical, unit, mortise and rim, and reload cylinders, as well as replaces and repairs panic hardware, door closers, ADA openers, locks on desks, file cabinets, display cases, and similar containers. The Locksmith cuts new or replacement keys, picks locks for which keys have been lost or broken and makes repairs of locks as required under emergency conditions. The Locksmith also maintains an adequate and appropriate stock of locksmith supplies and equipment, monitors and reports maintenance issues needing attention to the appropriate authority, and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Keeps accurate records and inventory of all District keys.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complies with all School District, City, State and OSHA policies.
- Will be required to be available on call for weekend and after hour emergencies to support site activities. On call rotation weeks will be divided among available utility technicians. Will carry the remote access laptop during assigned times. Will be compensated based on hourly rate and minimum 2 hours pay per maintenance contract when reporting to a site for a call.
- Completes all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains daily upkeep of assigned vehicle and equipment.
- Completes all required preventative maintenance requests in a timely manner.
- Records all needed repairs, inspections, boiler checks and makes repairs as needed or directed.Â
- Ensures building and property is secure during shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
- District wide snow removal expected.
- Overtime for district wide snow removal is expected.
- Operates motorized equipment used for snow removal.
- Moves up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools to remote building locations.
- Stands on ladders and platform lifts, at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of time.
- Performs essential maintenance to the facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: reaching, crouching; kneeling; shoveling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
- Works under the supervision of the Utility Tech Support Lead, Facility Manager.
- Performs work or substitutes in another Facilities Department as directed by supervisor or the Facility Manager.
- Performs other duties within the level of responsibility assigned by the supervisors.
- Performs general and specialized maintenance to the building structure or carpentry components including flooring, walls, ceiling, or built in cabinets and attaching various items to building structure.

 Education and License Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minnesota Driver’s License.
- At least 1 to 2 years experience as a locksmith is required.
- Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing experience.
- 2nd Class C boiler license required at time of hire.
- Current Registered Unlicensed Electrician or obtain within 90 days.
- Current Certified Pool Operator License or obtain within 90 days.
Experience Requirement:
- Prefer a minimum of three years related experience in the building maintenance, care and repair.
- Prefer a minimum of 1 year of locksmith experience in a similar position.
- Prefer work experience in a public school system.
- Prefer experience in a union environment.
- Prefer experience supporting multiple sites.
- Experience with Work Order systems.
- Experienced with BAS systems.
- Prefer experience in pool operations.
Required Skills:
- General mechanical ability is required; skills in the use of hand tools and equipment associated with the locksmithing and associated hardware is required. The ability to interpret plans and blueprints and to understand hardware schedules is required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. Computer literacy is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Physical requirements:Â
- Stooping, bending, occasional awkward positions. Must be able to lift over 50 lbs., 80 lbs. assisted.
- Ability to work in moderately hazardous conditions in outdoor environments and within buildings
- Moves up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools to remote building locations.
- Erect and stand on scaffolding, ladders, and platforms lifts.
- Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
