Description

Watertown-Mayer Public Schools is seeking a passionate and experienced .5 District Literacy Lead to join our team and play a crucial role in driving student literacy success for the 2025-2026 school year.

About the Role:

As the Literacy Lead, you will be responsible for leading the district’s efforts in fulfilling the requirements of the Minnesota Reading to Ensure Academic Development (READ) Act. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Supporting and mentoring teachers:

    • Coach and mentor teachers in implementing evidence-based structured literacy practices in grades PK-12

    • Design and deliver professional development on Science of Reading instruction aligned with MTSS practices, and differentiated instruction.

    • Meet with teachers to discuss classroom data, action to analysis plans, classwide interventions, and lesson modeling.

    • Stay abreast of current research and best practices in literacy instruction and share them with the district.

 

  • READ Act initiatives:

    • Oversee the implementation of evidence-based reading instruction in kindergarten through grade 12.

    • Develop and monitor a district-wide literacy/reading plan aligned with READ Act requirements.

    • Foster collaboration and communication between educators and interventionists to ensure consistent and comprehensive reading instruction across the district.

    • Participate in the District Literacy Lead Communities of Practice as provided by MDE and the Region Centers of Excellence.

    • Support District efforts to administer required universal and dyslexia screening tools and data submissions to MDE including the Local Literacy Plan.

 

  • Ensure Fidelity of Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in Literacy Practices:

    • Collaborate with building leaders and teachers to ensure fidelity in implementing MTSS for reading interventions in Tiers I, II and III.

    • Implement and track progress monitoring for early identification of students needing reading support within FastBridge.

The READ Act:

The Minnesota READ Act aims to ensure that every child in Minnesota reads at or above grade level at every grade. This comprehensive legislation outlines various requirements for school districts, including:

  • Implementing a MTSS framework for early identification and intervention for students struggling with reading.

  • Providing access to evidence-based reading instruction for all students in kindergarten through grade 12.

  • Developing and implementing a district-wide reading plan aligned with the READ Act’s goals.

  • Reporting data on student progress in reading to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a K-12 setting

  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective reading instruction, MTSS frameworks, and data-driven decision-making.

  • Master’s degree in Reading, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field preferred.

  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Passion for literacy and a commitment to student success.
