The Educational Technology Support team is looking for a Learning Systems Specialist – 12M.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer and information systems, business or public administration, communications, education or a related field and one year of experience coordinating the operation of an educational software system; or three years of experience coordinating the operation of an educational software system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Computer Curriculum Corporation SupportPro Technician.
  • Experience as a technology trainer.
  • Experience working in an urban school environment.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Skill in technical trouble shooting.
  • Ability to work effectively with other district staff representing a diversity of cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and to act as team leader when appropriate.
  • Ability to conduct training and staff development activities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently as appropriate to the situation.
  • Ability to plan work and prioritize tasks.

Responsibilities

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental responsibilities:

  • Determine learning system training needs and topics to be included at training sessions; schedule lab for training; develop and/or compile information to be used in the training session; schedule outside trainers for the session, if necessary; create flyers or other promotional materials advertising the training sessions.
  • Conduct individual and/or group computer learning systems and courseware training for teachers and other school staff; lead question and answer session; provide individual classroom support for computer learning systems when necessary.
  • Facilitate user group meetings; determine agenda; lead discussion.
  • Serve as internal district liaison for computer learning systems as assigned; communicate systems user needs to the technology department; communicate information from the technology department to school staff (i.e., issues pertaining to new installations and existing learning systems upgrades); assist school staff with developing their technology plan for using learning systems to attain student academic gains.
  • Serve as liaison between the district and computer learning systems representatives to share information; request quotes for new systems or upgrades;  communicate information about the purchasing or upgrading of systems as appropriate.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting for computer learning systems by responding to telephone calls for assistance from school staff; visit sites when technical problem cannot be resolved over the telephone.
  • Coordinate installations of computer learning systems; create pre-installation checklist to ensure a successful installation; meet with school staff to ensure that they are aware of computer learning systems hardware needs.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with learning systems staff at other school districts to share information.
  • Research learning systems software for use by the district; attend conferences and presentation to view new and updated products.
  • Create a learning systems newsletter; write articles on learning system management, courseware, technical tips and related topics and to promote upcoming learning systems events and meetings; direct the distribution of this newsletter.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

This is a 12 month position working 40 hours per week.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the School and Community Service Professionals (SCSP) Bargaining Unit negotiated labor agreement. The labor agreement and salary schedule can be found at Labor Agreements – Saint Paul Public Schools (spps.org). The minimum rate of pay for this position is $52,710 annually.
