WORKING HOURS:       6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday thru Friday
 
LOCATION:                     Hastings High School
 
FLSA:                              Non-exempt
 
QUALIFICATIONS:                         

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. 
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Effective grooming skills
  • Ability to lift 55 pounds to shoulder height occasionally
  • Pass pre-employment background check
  • Ability to push / pull a minimum of 20 pounds frequently
  • Upon hire-Special Class Boilers license is preferred or must be obtained within 9 months of hire. 

REPORTS TO:  Director of Buildings and Maintenance and Building Principals.

  • Leads, trains and monitors the work of building custodians.  Monitors work of subordinates to ensure that work meets standards.
    •  Monitors and ensuring the cleaning of assigned areas by cleaning personnel.
    • Makes additional assignments, adjustments or work orders based upon work needs.
    • Informs proceeding shift and personnel of needs, work orders, etc. that require follow up and/or completion.
    • Identifies building problems, needs or issues and communicates with the Building Principal or Supervisor of Building & Maintenance concerning facility needs or problems.
    • Informs supervisor of performance problems, training needs, or other staffing/personnel issues.
  • Operates boiler and machinery in the building.  Checks boilers and air handling units.  Assists district maintenance technicians in the conduct of building maintenance repairs and activities, as needed.
    •  Monitors and checks building equipment.
    • Makes adjustments due to weather conditions and other factors.
    • Operates and maintains mechanical systems within the building. 
    • Maintains all logs and records required.
  • Coordinates and oversees building security.  Assigns, secures and/or opens up building.  Shuts off lights, closes windows, locks doors, sets building alarms.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in the set up and take down of equipment and materials needed for scheduling building activities, meetings, community education classes, events or functions within the building.  Provides assistance in unloading deliveries and/or food items to the building and in moving desks, furniture, and equipment within the building, as assigned.
  • Coordinates and/or assists in cafeteria set up and cleaning.  Sets up tables and chairs for breakfast and lunch.  Checks and fills milk coolers.  Cleans tables, floors and stores tables/chairs after breakfast meal times.  Removes and empties trash.
  • Coordinates, schedules and participates in extensive summer cleaning schedules, routines and projects in building preparations for the new year.
    • Leads summer crews in the comprehensive cleaning of the building.
    • Removes furniture from all classrooms; cleans sinks; washes walls and windows; strips and seal waxes floors.
    • Shampoos all carpets.
    • Paints lockers and classrooms.
  • Participates in the cleaning of assigned classrooms, floors, offices, restrooms, gyms, hallways or other areas of the building to assure a safe and clean environment in which to learn and work.
  • Collaborates and works with the Principal, Supervisor of Buildings and Maintenance, Grounds Supervisor or other Lead Custodians to identify special needs, projects or events that impact scheduling, work priorities, and workload requirements.
  • Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.

COMPENSATION:  Starting Rate of Pay:  $26.50 per hour plus $.50 per hour secondary lead pay (+ potential licensure pay) per the 24-26 master agreement
