TITLE                           LEAD CUSTODIAN
 
SUPERVISOR             Building Principal
 
JOB SUMMARY          
Under limited supervision, develops and oversees effective cleaning plans for the building or group of buildings; assigns, reviews and evaluates work performed by cleaning personnel.
 
ASSIGNMENT
1.         12 Months – 8 Hour Shift
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1.         The following duties are normal for this classification.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
            A.         Cleans restrooms and sours and sanitizes sinks, toilets and drinking fountains.
            B.         Sweeps, mops, power scrubs and waxes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets, washes windows, sands and refinishes wood floors, washes walls, cleans blinds and blackboards.
            C.         Assembles, moves, dusts and polishes furniture.  Sets up and tear downs tables and chairs.
            D.         Collects garbage and recyclable materials and places in appropriate containers.
            E.         Maintains building security.  Locks and unlocks doors and windows. 
            F.         Assists with fire drills                 
            G.         Checks buildings for damage and break-ins
            H.         Monitors cleaning supply inventories and requisitions supplies
            I.          Performs routine boiler operation
            J.         Assembles and maintains building equipment
            K.         Removes snow and ice from building entrances, sidewalks, driveways, and play areas
 
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE
1.         Physical Involvement
            A.         Position requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as floor scrubber, vacuum cleaner, mops, brooms, common hand tools
                        and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
            B.         Position requires the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limps in performing movements requiring moderate skill, such as assembling.
            C.         Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate but not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing and
                        pulling objects and materials of moderate weight, twelve to twenty pounds.
            D.         Position requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, odors and textures associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks.
           
2.         Mental Involvement
            A.         Position requires ability complete tasks and meeting deadlines despite constant interruptions
            B.         Position requires the ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data and information according to a prescribed scheme or plan.
            C.         Position requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and    information such as regulations, blueprints, regulations, diagrams, work orders, schedules, material safety data sheets,
                        maintenance and general operating manuals.
            D.         Position requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS
1.         Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents and toxic/poisonous agents.
 
SUPERVISION OF OTHER EMPLOYEES
1.         This position provides supervision and work direction over the building custodial staff.
 
QUALIFICATIONS       
1.         High School Diploma or equivalent
2.         First class boilers license
3.         First aid certification is preferred
4.          CPR certification is preferred
5.         Prior experience within an educational system or working with children preferred
6.          Good organizational and communication skills and the ability to interact with the public
7.          Valid Minnesota Driver’s License
8.          Must complete the necessary application process and pass a criminal background check and drug screening test
