Description:

Harbor City International School (harborcityschool.org) is an inclusive, tuition free, public high school committed to academic challenge, community engagement, creative expression, and global perspective. This community centered, inviting, small charter school is located in downtown Duluth, MN. The purpose of this position is to inspire student learning in language arts to foster strong communication, love of reading, and meet or exceed state standards using engaging teaching practices rooted in equity, accessibility, and accountability and working to achieve our school mission. Ideal candidates will be driven by curiosity, growth oriented, committed to collaboration, rooted in equity, and deliver quality professional performance.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Content development and delivery for literature courses to meet state standards which may include: American Literature, World Literature, Literature based elective courses, Fundamentals, on-level, and Honors levels

  • Create a safe and inclusive environment for all students to engage in classroom and school activities

  • Provide effective assessment and feedback to promote strong skills, knowledge, understandings, and application of Language Arts, reading, and communication

  • Provide timely feedback to students and families

  • Make decisions informed by a variety of assessment tools and data for instruction

  • Differentiate learning experiences for all students and work with special education staff to provide student accommodations

  • Communicate with students, families, and colleagues effectively

  • Oversee an advisory period

  • Teach 3 Symposium classes- short, special interest classes in January, May, and June

  • Additional opportunities: club advisement, student travel, school leadership and development committees

 

Education Requirements

  • BA in English, Literature, or relevant field

  • Valid MN teaching license in language arts, communication, literature for grades 9-12, 7-12 preferred

 

Salary and Benefits

  • Based on education and experience, beginning at $42,500
