SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Kindergarten Assistant will be responsible for supervision of Kindergarten students during the school day and support the learning of Kindergarten students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with individual or small group instruction as directed by the teacher.
- Assists teacher in monitoring students, maintaining order and discipline, and attending to individual student needs.
- Assists teacher in preparing instructional materials and in setting up special projects in the classroom.
- Assists with small group work/support, read alouds, and 1:1 student interaction and assessment.
- Assists in maintaining neatness and orderliness of classroom environment and hallway displays.
- Supports bathroom and health needs of Kindergarten students.
- Supervision of an entire classroom, recess, etc.
- Operates standard school equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the teacher or Principal.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to read and interpret simple directions and comprehend written information disseminated in the school.
- Ability to articulate expectations to students.
- Ability to communicate in oral and written form using correct grammar and usage.
- Ability to perform basic operations on numbers taught in Elementary School mathematics classrooms.
- Ability to interpret directions to students given by the teacher in mathematics instruction.
- Ability to reason mathematically in order to assist students with mathematical problem solving as presented in the Elementary classroom.
- Ability to apply common sense reasoning in carrying out detailed but simple written or oral instructions.
- Ability to manage problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and community.
- Ability to demonstrate caring and warmth for children and an understanding of children’s needs.
- Ability to demonstrate good listening skills and the ability and willingness to collaborate and cooperate with other staff in accomplishing the goals of the school program.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects in the performance of the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work environment may be noisy and hectic at times and may contain the normal stresses associated with managing student behavior while assuring the safety and well-being of young children and helping students and staff to accomplish the expectations outlined in the school program.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience working with young children.
